Our Vision
At Hughes and Carter, we are dedicated to providing Freemasons with the highest quality Masonic regalia, gifts, and personal effects available in the UK. Our goal is to help our noble Craft regain the elegance and dignity that was once the hallmark of Freemasonry, ensuring our regalia is recognised as the distinguished badge of every Mason.
Our Values
At Hughes and Carter, we believe that ritual, and the profound symbolic meaning of the apron, is far more significant than just words exchanged during a degree. This conviction drives us to use only genuine lambskin. We go to great lengths to ethically source and procure the finest naturally tanned whole lambskin hides available, reflecting our commitment to the Craft’s traditions.
It is our firm belief that each Brother’s “Badge of a Mason” should be a direct and deeply personal reflection of his commitment to Freemasonry. Every apron we create is hand-cut and handmade by our artisan craftsmen. Should a Brother or Lodge desire, we also specialise in creating distinctive, bespoke designs unique to the individual or Lodge. This unwavering drive for uncompromising quality permeates every aspect of Hughes and Carter, and it is reflected in every single product we produce.
Why Regalia?
Your own journey in Freemasonry will have undoubtedly affirmed that the apron stands as the most important symbol to the Craft; it is the physical representation of what Freemasonry truly is. For a thoughtful Brother, the apron should remain the focal point of continuous reflection and self-examination, year after year, as he grows and matures both in life and in Masonry. He will reflect on what it means to be worn with dignity and honour, considering it a constant reminder, a standard, for his actions and deeds.
It’s often said that one’s attire conveys the first impression of identity. For this same reason, your apron deserves careful consideration every time you enter the Lodge.
Have you ever attended a Lodge and found yourself wearing a borrowed apron, perhaps pulled from a communal drawer or box outside the Lodge door? Have you ever noticed that one apron with unfortunate coffee stains? If you hastily grab one of those old, worn-out loaner aprons and tie it around your waist as you rush into the Lodge room, do you truly “wear it with pleasure to yourself and honour to the Fraternity?”
We suggest that the finest way to begin a period of introspection is by donning an apron of exceptional quality and beauty – an apron that YOU purchased for YOUR own use, one with which you cultivate a personal and intimate relationship. It is YOUR “badge of a Mason,” and undeniably the one piece of regalia in which you should take the most profound pride. Whether it’s a plain lambskin of elegant proportion or one richly decorated, it should never be fashioned from cheap material or exhibit shoddy construction.
Your apron is the most personal and potent way to express your unwavering commitment to Freemasonry.
Beyond our aprons, we also take immense pride in helping you represent the Craft in other meaningful ways. Our collections include fine Masonic clothing, elegant Masonic rings, distinguished Masonic accessories, original Masonic artwork, thoughtful Masonic gifts, and much more. We invite you to explore our collections and discover the perfect piece to symbolise your dedication to the Craft.
